Big Trouble in Little China Storyline

Somewhere in the 80s, trucker Jack Burton arrives in a small town to deliver his cargo and win a few bucks playing cards with the locals down at the Chinese market. Practically bankrupting nearly all of his opponents, his friend Wang bets him a game of "double or nothing" to try and regain his cash and loses. Jack wants his well earned money, but Wang explains he doesn't have the cash on him and that'll he pay later because he's due to pick up a long, lost girlfriend from the airport. Convinced Wang's pulling something sly, Jack insists he drive Wang to the airport so they can stick together. However, at the airport Wang's girlfriend is captured by the Lords of Death, a streetwise Chinatown gang. She is essential for an upcoming plan to revive a thousand year old Chinese sorcerer and bring him back to the world as a mortal again. So begins a daring adventure to rescue Wang's girl and stop the ruthless operation that's going on down in Little China. Teaming up with a cast of very different individuals, Jack and Wang delve deep into an uncovering conspiracy in which everything's not exactly as it seems. Here comes big trouble...

Big Trouble in Little China trivia

'Kurt Russell (I)' (qv) suffered a bad case of the flu during shooting so the sweat on his body is real, caused by the fever.
According to 'John Carpenter (I)' (qv) in the DVD Commentary, 'Carter Wong' (qv), who plays Thunder, actually worked as a martial arts instructor with the Hong Kong Police.
SPOILER: In the DVD Commentary, 'John Carpenter (I)' (qv) joking say's 'Kurt Russell (I)' (qv)'s character Jack Burton is the hero of the movie, but other than killing Lo Pan he does absolutely nothing heroic throughout the movie.
The Mortal Kombat characters Shang Tsung and Raiden were inspired by the characters of David Lo Pan and the 'Storm' called Lightning, respectively.
According to 'John Carpenter (I)' (qv) and 'Kurt Russell (I)' (qv) in the DVD Commentary, the story was originally written as a western but Carpenter decided to set it during modern times. They even mention that instead of Jack Burton's truck being stolen, it was originally his horse.

Big Trouble in Little China goofs

FAKE: Lo Pan's supernaturally tall form is revealed to be nothing more than a pair of high platform shoes when he falls.
FAKE: Obvious fake knife that Jack holds between his teeth.
CONT: When Lo Pan encounters Gracie, who is just seeing the floating Mao Yin, Lo Pan's pinky-nail is as long as the others for just one scene. In all of the other scenes his pinky nail is extended.
SYNC: Jack's truck has an overhead pull line for his air horn (seen on-screen when the Puma truck cuts them off). Early in the film, when Jack is pulling into the Chinese market, you can clearly see that he's *not* pulling that line when the truck's horn sounds.
PLOT: During the wedding ceremony, Lo Pan can clearly be seen grabbing Miao Yin's wrist to prick her with the ceremonial needle. However, the entire purpose of the ceremony is to lift his curse and return Lo Pan from his current ghostly state to flesh-and-blood. He should not be able to grab her wrist until after the ceremony is completed.
