Street Kings Storyline

Tom Ludlow is a veteran LAPD cop who finds life difficult to navigate after the death of his wife. When evidence implicates him in the execution of a fellow officer, he is forced to go up against the cop culture he's been a part of his entire career, ultimately leading him to question the loyalties of everyone around him.

'James Ellroy' (qv) wrote the screenplay in the mid-1990's inspired by the 'O.J. Simpson' (qv) trial. Over the years, 'Spike Lee' (qv), 'David Fincher' (qv), and 'Oliver Stone (I)' (qv) were attached to direct the film at various stages of pre-production. 'Sean Penn (I)' (qv) was once attached to star. 'John Ridley (I)' (qv) contributed to an early version of the screenplay. Belgian director 'Erik Van Looy' (qv) was set to direct this film according to various interviews, but these plans were scrapped in preproduction, upon which Van Looy went on to direct _Loft (2008)_ (qv) in his home country.
As Ludlow walks out of his impromptu meeting with Diskant he says "Harry, I thought you were dead" to an unseen Detective seated at a desk. This is in reference to 'Keanu Reeves' (qv)' film _Speed (1994)_, which was also based in LA, in which his character Jack Traven was partnered with Detective Harry Temple (played by 'Jeff Daniels (I)' (qv)) who was killed in a bombing.

Street Kings goofs

CONT: The position of the sun changes in the last scene.
CONT: When Ludlow shoots the Korean guy who was sitting on a toilet, he falls and we see that he has his pants on and the toilet seat is actually down. Later, when Ludlow plants the weapon on the guard at the desk, we see over his shoulder that the toilet seat is now up.
CREW: When Ludlow and Diskant are at Grills’ house, just after beating him with the telephone book, someone disappears through a door in the background and in the next shot the door moves and closes. If there was supposed to be someone else in the house someone would have noticed and/or mentioned it...
FAKE: When Ludlow is tied up and being shot at by the other cops outside the house in the hills, the red plastic cases of the squibs are clearly visible as they explode around him.
CONT: After getting into the fight with the two Korean men, Ludlow has blood on his for head. During the scenes where he bust into their house, in some shots he is seen with the blood on his for head but in other scenes there is nothing on his for head.
