Clockwise Storyline

Brian Stimpson is the headmaster of a comprehensive (high) school in England. He sets himself, his staff and pupils very high standards. On the way to a conference at which he is to talk, all manner of disasters strike.

In the monastery scene, the red-haired monk holding the white horses is local farrier Ian Hatton who loaned his anvil for this scene.
In interviews about the time of _A Fish Called Wanda (1988)_ (qv), 'John Cleese' (qv) said watching this film in a USA theater made him understand this film would not be a hit in the US.
The headmaster was on his way to the fictitious University of Norwich. A University of East Anglia in Norwich *does* exist, but the film was not shot there.
The school where Stimpson is headmaster is named after Thomas Tompion (1639-1713), a famous clockmaker.
The car the headmaster destroys is the same car used in _"Fawlty Towers" (1975)_ (qv), only with a different paint job. Both cars are BMC 1100s, but the version in _"Fawlty Towers" (1975)_ (qv) was a 'Countryman' - a small estate car (US=station wagon). The car in _Clockwise (1986)_ (qv)is a saloon (US=sedan).
