Romeo Must Die Storyline
In this modern day Romeo and Juliet, kung fu action star Jet Li plays Romeo to hip-hop singer, Aaliyah Haughton's Juliet. Li is an ex-cop investigating the murder of his brother, who had ties with the Chinese mafia in America. Aaliyah plays the daughter of the American mob boss. Neither side approves of their romance, so, obviously, kung fu action ensues, with a soundtrack by Aaliyah.

Romeo Must Die trivia
- When Trish dumps her bodyguard at the record store and hides in the cab, the bodyguard comes out and yells, "Trish! I'm gonna find your Aaliyah-lookin' ass!" The character Trish is played by singer Aaliyah.
- The golf scene is filmed on the same golf course where Bob Barker beat up Happy Gilmore in the film _Happy Gilmore (1996)_ (qv).
- While in the record store we see many posters of different artist (such as R. Kelly) after Trish leaves the store Maurice stays and when he realizes that Trish has left, it shows him running towards the door and there is a poster of Aaliyah (the actress/singer that plays the character Trish) by the window.
- Film acting debut of singer 'Aaliyah (I)' (qv) and the only one released during her lifetime.
- A similar scene where Han is using a fire hose as a weapon of choice is used again by 'Jason Statham' (qv)'s character Frank Martin in _Transporter 2 (2005)_ (qv).
Romeo Must Die plot
- The death of Han Sing's (Jet Li) little brother catapults him out of a Hong Kong jail to the Oakland-San Francisco waterfront, where he vows to find his brother's killers. His quest lands him in the middle of a three-way deal between Chinese, Black and White "businessmen" who will stop at nothing to create a new money-making stadium. Han finds help from Trish, a woman with close connections to the Black mob, and together they work to find their brothers' killers.
